Australian multiple Top Bike Champion Chris Matheson and his Nitro Voodoo Team are travelling to Perth for the second round of the ANDRA Pro-Series Championship to be held at the Perth Motorplex at Kwinana, Western Australia on 2 & 3 December 2011.
Matheson took out the first round of the series in Sydney, winning the Australian Nationals, making the win two Nationals in a row.
Matheson beat Perth based Mark Drew and his Wild Card Racing Team in the final with a 6.393 to a 7.649, with Drew smoking the tyre at the hit.
Matheson, a relative rooky to the Top Bike scene has blitzed the field on his RBP McBride Machine, winning the Championship in his maiden year, then, backing it up last Season. Matheson holds two of the three Track Records in Australia and is eager to make it three from three in Perth next month.
National Record Holder at 6.058 sets a high bar for fellow competitors, however, Matheson is mindful that the field is catching up with the likes of Mark Drew, current V-Twin Record Holder, Mark Ashelford of Attitude Racing, recently returning from a very successful European campaign and the likes of Chris Porter, to name a few.
Matheson said he is looking forward to the “Plex” round, as Perth always motivates the local Top Bike Riders to take up the challenge to the Eastern state guys, not to mention taking on our No.1 plate.
The Team has just returned from almost a month in the States, where we attended the NRBA Finals in Las Vegas and helped crew for World Champion and close friend Larry “Spiderman” McBride, at the Manufacturers Cup at Valdosta, Georgia.
The USA Trip is an annual pilgrimage for us, as we continue to gain knowledge, advice and share data between the Teams.
McBride and Crew Chief Roger Bloor have been instrumental in our success.
Matheson said “watching McBride leave the line, running incredible incremental with ET’s in the 5 second range is unbelievable to see”.
“We hope to get into the five second zone before too long, as I continue my steep learning curve on the bike. Hopefully we get more runs on the bike this season, as track time is critical to get consistent fast results. Last year we had less qualifiers, rain outs, cancellations, you name it, it was a shocker”.
We always look forward to the Perth Round and this one is no different. Hopefully we’re not bridesmaids, as we have been in the past.
Perth – here we come!
