Easter Set to Unleash (UPDATED) Nitro Voodoo Top Fuel Motorcycle

MARCH 26, 2021 – Current Australian Top Fuel Champion Chris Matheson is chomping at the bit to run his 1500 horsepower, nitro-burning Top Fuel Motorcycle down the dragstrip again.

After the longest layoff in his ten year drag racing career, you can feel his anticipation to return to the quarter-mile.

On April 3rd, he and his crew will return to Queensland’s premier drag strip – Willowbank Raceway for the Easter – Apex Epoxy Flooring Super Thunder event.

Matheson said, “Our last 400 Thunder championship round was held way back in November 2019. In my racing career I’ve never had such a long spell away from the track.

“COVID-19 changed our lives, and in some cases, it took away many things we may have taken for granted, including jobs and social activities.

“However, on the bright side, the long break enabled us to make modifications to our bike that we never had to chance to do previously. We’ve got plenty of power, we only need to get that 1500 horsepower down on the track.

“After winning the last three Australian Championships, it’s our goal to take out championship No. 7, and hopefully lower our Australian National Drag Racing (Quarter-mile) Top Bike Record of 6.03 seconds!

“We are shooting high at the upcoming round at our home track and hope to set a solid foundation for the following championship round in Sydney in May in the leadup to the 2021 Winternationals finale in June,” said Matheson.

“Historically we run well at our home track and are keen get down to Sydney after its upgrade to an all concreate quarter-mile dragstrip and improved braking area. With both track records under our belt, we aim to improve on them both.

“With the roll-out of the new COVID vaccine we hope to see or fans and competitors re-emerge to support drag racing, and the tracks that hold these major events.

Matheson said, “I’m expecting a very tough finish to the COVID effected season with three rounds remaining in three months. We are keen to get some points in the bank and put our upgrades and modifications to the test.

There are a number of new Top Fuel bikes that have come to reality in Australia over the break and look forward to seeing them on the strip in the near future.
